Reiki on the Road

Have you always wanted to travel but your budget is a little short and you’re worried you’ll ‘feel so lonely I could die, boom boom’?

Well there’s something that you could take with you that might help; it doesn’t weigh a ton (it’ll even leave room for that extra book) and will always leave love and compassion strewn across the path behind you . You’ll have guessed by now what I’m about to suggest - Reiki! This article also applies to those who practise any healing art whether it be massage, shiatsu or acupressure.

Here’s how to set yourself up.

Cost: We suggest that you charge the local price for a massage. Remember, you don’t have to charge a lot to cover the costs of your next meal and you’ll meet really interesting, like minded people who you’ll probably end up having lunch with anyway and perhaps even travelling with. Instead of charging money you could also swap services; a massage, a painting, information, food etc.etc.

Where: Reiki can be practised anywhere though preferably in a quiet(ish) space on a comfortable something. Hmmm sounds a little vague doesn’t it? But then that’s the point - it really doesn’t matter! When you’re travelling you can do Reiki in the room of a backpackers, by the beach or in a park. Make the space more attractive by using aromatherapy (incense), candles or locally handcrafted materials.

Other ideas are to ring Health Resorts (your dream destination) and work for a month as a practitioner on a commission basis or for free board and rent.

Reiki Masters might want to rent a space if they are staying in an area for a while and offer courses for travellers. This can be a huge success as travellers are often interested in self development.

How: Carry an A4 sheet with you that announces ‘Reiki treatments by your name’. Don’t fill in where as yet but do leave a space. When you have found a place to practise, photcopy the sheet and fill in where. This might be your address ‘Room 8, The Backpackers Inn’ or it might say ‘For more information meet me at Grandma’s for breakfast between 8 and 10 every morning’ - you eat there anyway! All you do is place a leaflet on the table so that everyone knows that it is you who they are looking for.

You can then copy this sheet a number of times and place in backpackers, hostels, restaurant windows, bus/train stations. Make sure you ask beforehand - you’ll find most locals are curious and more than willing to help your venture. If necessary offer them a free treatment!

If money’s no object and you are simply interested in practising your Reiki for the benefit of others, now’s your chance. When travelling you can become involved in the immediate community by volunteering your services. You can do this formally through the Red Cross or local hospital or just ask around and there will surely be someone who needs Reiki. This is an excellent way to meet people, understand the culture (a little bit) and spread love and compassion. Perfect!

Believing

It is written in Proverbs 14:2 There is a way that seems right to man, but in the end it leads to death. It is also written in Proverbs 16:9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. This leads me to the question. Who or what shall I believe. Lets look at what the Bible says about believing. In the book of John 6:28 it says Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.

Look at John 3:18 it says Whoever believes in him is not condemned whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not belived in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict; Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.

Living in righteous is believing in Jesus. It says in the book of Romans 3:22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunishedhe did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

Now look at Romans 10:9 it says That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

As the Scripture says, Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame. For there is no difference between Jew and Gentilethe same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!

Now look at Romans 16:17 it says I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in you way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. The first step many vacation travelers do is either pick up a holiday brochure at their local travel agency, or go online and start searching travel sites for planning tips and package information. These sources are great for helping you select your travel destination, choice of hotels, resorts, and desired cruises, plus detailed information on the destination’s amenities and available tours, but chances are you won’t find in these brochures, or on many of the travel sites, currently updated political and economic situation at destination.

Other important information you may not find is up to date information on changes in your required travel documentation for the country you plan to visit, or any major construction going on nearby your accommodations.

You would be surprised how many vacation tour companies don’t advise travel agencies that extensive renovations are taking place at their properties they offer, and this can be a real inconvenience to you if you’re not informed ahead of time!

Even though you may put all your trust in your local travel advisor, or the information you find on some of the reputable vacation websites, it’s your responsibility to obtain the most current information available, and to do this you should contact the Tourist Boards and Embassies of the destination you’re planning to visit. If you’re not sure what to ask or find out, below are 3 valuable tips to help you plan a safe and enjoyable holiday, and avoid any pitfalls that may create a vacation nightmare.

Tip # 1: In my opinion, knowing what travel documentation is required for each country you visit is extremely important, and if you think that your travel company or online services will keep you up to date, think again! Prior to booking your vacation, ensure you ask your agent to provide you a number to the Embassy of the destination you’re traveling to, and contact them directly yourself to get the most current travel document information.

You would be surprised how quickly a country can change their document policies to enter on a dime, and if your travel agent didn’t get this information quick enough, it’s your responsibility to get the proper papers, passports, or anything else that’s required to enter that destination. If you don’t, then it doesn’t matter whom you point the finger at, it’s your responsibility in the end! Contacting the country’s Embassy will give you all the requirements, and having this information ahead time will allow you to prepare without having to pay extra passport fees, or even worse, cancelling your vacation.

Tip # 2: It’s a fact that many of the vacation paradises you plan to visit may have increased tourism crime. No matter where you go on you holidays, if you don’t use your common sense and gut feelings, you may become a victim to crime. Tourism Organizations are good sources to find out about the destination’s economic situation, and also other information on tourism growth. You might be asking what this all would mean to you, and I will tell you!

You unquestionably should be contacting the Embassies for any current political unrest, or dangerous events that may be undergoing, but don’t stop there. You should also contact the Tourism Boards as well, and ask them questions such as:
